How much do you think it would cost to help a family put a hot meal on the table? How about keeping an elderly couple warm at night? A light for a student to see his homework? Collectively, not much. Together we can make a big difference in helping our neighbors through difficult times.
We understand life happens. Things come up. Problems arise. That’s why we started Community Cares . The program collects donations to help our customers who have faced a hardship and need a little help paying their bill. We work with United Way to distribute funds to customers in Horry, Georgetown and Berkeley counties who apply and qualify. Those who meet eligibility requirements may receive assistance once in a 24-month period to offset the cost of their electric bill to avoid disconnection.
Making a donation is easy. You can make a one-time or recurring donation online anytime. If you still get a paper bill, you can fill out the form on the back of your bill and add a little extra to your check. If you’d like to give a recurring $1 or even $100 all at once, every amount helps. You’re helping someone in your community and in return, receiving a write-off on your taxes. Plus, there’s always the feeling of knowing you are supporting your neighbors in need.
If you haven’t considered giving to Community Cares before, please give it a thought. When you donate now, the money could be used to help a family and that is the perfect gift. Join us in caring for our community.
