As temperatures rise across South Carolina, more families and outdoor enthusiasts are heading to the water. At Santee Cooper, we know that a safe, enjoyable day on the lake or river begins at the boat landing. That’s why we’ve invested in meaningful upgrades to 15 public boat landings — improving safety, accessibility and the overall experience for our customers and communities.
From Berkeley County to Sumter County, these enhancements reflect Santee Cooper’s ongoing commitment to maintaining reliable, well-managed recreational access across the region we serve.
Major Improvements Across Berkeley County
Berkeley County has seen some of the most visible progress. At Richardsons Boat Landing (Bonneau), crews completed parking lot repairs, installed a safety fence, replenished rip rap, cleared underbrush and extended the pier by 90 feet.
Nearby, Amos Lee Gourdine Boat Landing (Russellville) now includes a new playground, a 60-foot pier extension and added protections to prevent vehicles from entering sensitive wooded areas.
At Hatchery Boat Landing (Pinopolis), improvements are now complete, including a repaved parking lot, two new fishing platforms, improved shoreline stabilization and public restrooms. Landscaping enhancements were also included as part of the project.
West Dike Boat Landing (Pinopolis) construction of two elevated fishing platforms and reconstruction of the boat ramp have been completed. The installation of a fixed pier is underway and should be completed in early June.
At General Moultrie Landing (Bonneau), shoreline stabilization and parking lot improvements are complete, with a new fishing platform and pier currently under construction.
A major transformation is underway at William Dennis “Biggin” Boat Landing (Moncks Corner). Once complete, it will feature an expanded boat ramp, additional parking, event shelters, hiking and biking trails, multiple fishing and service piers, updated landscaping and new restroom facilities—creating a premier destination for outdoor recreation.
Enhancements in Surrounding Counties
Upgrades extend well beyond Berkeley County. In Calhoun County, both Stump Hole Landing (Elloree) and Low Falls Landing (Cameron) received parking lot improvements and shoreline reinforcement, with Stump Hole also getting a new dock.
In Clarendon County, Taw Caw Boat Landing (Summerton) now features improved drainage, expanded parking and a new dock. Rowland Subdivision Landing (Summerton) and White Oak III Landing (Manning) also saw parking and shoreline upgrades. Work continues at C. Alex Harvin III Boat Landing (Manning), where dock replacement and shoreline improvements are complete, with parking lot repaving still to come.
In Orangeburg County, Cathead Landing (Eutawville) received parking and dock repairs, while Sparkleberry Landing (Rimini) in Sumter County now offers expanded parking, improved green spaces and a cleaner, more accessible kayak launch area.
Built for Safety, Designed for Experience
These improvements are about more than convenience, they’re about safety. Upgraded ramps, reinforced shorelines, clearer traffic flow and better lighting all contribute to a smoother, safer experience for boaters of all skill levels.
Still, safety starts with preparation. Santee Cooper encourages all boaters to check weather conditions, wear life jackets, inspect equipment and practice patience at busy landings.
Powering Recreation Across South Carolina
At Santee Cooper, we’re proud to power not only homes and businesses, but also the outdoor experiences that make South Carolina special. These boat landing upgrades support local tourism, enhance community access and ensure our lakes and rivers remain safe and welcoming for generations to come.
Whether you’re fishing at sunrise or enjoying a day on the water with family, Santee Cooper is committed to helping you start — and end — your trip safely.
