MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – As part of Imagine a Day Without Water National Day of Action on Oct. 11, local high school students are joining the team at the Santee Cooper Regional Water Plant to learn about the importance of clean, environmentally friendly water and the career opportunities the water industry provides.
Imagine a Day Without Water is an education campaign that focuses on the importance of clean water and the need for investing in making sure it is available for everyone.
“This event allows students the opportunity to get a better understanding of the water system and what it takes to get clean and usable water to their homes,” said Courtney Ames Watkins, Senior Manager of Water Systems at Santee Cooper. “It also gives them a firsthand look at the high-quality careers the water industry offers.”
Approximately 125 students from Timberland, Hanahan, Stratford, Berkeley and Cane Bay high schools registered for the event. In addition to the Santee Cooper team, representatives from Berkeley County, City of Goose Creek and City of Summerville are attending the event to talk with students.
