Santee Cooper is Proposing New Rates

Santee Cooper is proposing to change our rates, and we want your input. We need to invest in our electric system:

To maintain excellent reliability for customers.
To make significant system updates required by new regulations.

When inflation is combined with these investments, our current rates won’t provide enough funds to meet our costs.

We are proposing an average 4.9% base rate adjustment that would increase residential bills by an average 8.7%, but also give customers more control over monthly bills. If approved, new rates would take effect in April 2025. We have not increased rates since April 2017.

NEW: Three-Part Rate Structure

For some customers, including residential customers on the RG rate, we are proposing three-part rates, which:

Lower the energy charge.
Introduce a demand charge during specific peak-use hours, 6 – 9 a.m. in the winter and 3 – 6 p.m. in the summer.
Align cost recovery with the users who incur those costs.

This rate structure would give you more control over your bills. When you shift the use of energy-intensive appliances — like your clothes dryer — away from peak-use hours, you can lower your bills, even though you use the same amount of electricity each month.

We’ve created an easy-to-use rate comparison tool to help you see how the proposed rates could impact you personally. This tool is available for residential customers on the RG rate.
