Santee Cooper Petitions to Intervene: Dominion and NextEra Merger
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Santee Cooper has filed a petition to intervene in the South Carolina Public Service Commission’s proceeding for the proposed merger between NextEra Energy, Inc. and Dominion Energy, Inc.
Santee Cooper has a significant relationship with Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC), a subsidiary of Virginia-based Dominion Energy. Santee Cooper and DESC are planning together to jointly build and own Canadys Station in Colleton County, and we are already joint owners of the nuclear power unit operating at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station. Additionally, our two systems are highly interconnected, with 21 points of interconnection and almost 350 miles of shared transmission corridors throughout the state.
Although we have not taken a position in the matter, Santee Cooper has a direct and substantial interest in this proceeding. We are acting out of our responsibility to protect that substantial interest for our customers and the state.
