The Santee Cooper summer student program has been impactful for both employees and interns. Interns are gaining real work experience, creating connections, and learning about Santee Cooper as a whole.
The program is approximately two months long and allows college students to work and learn from Santee Cooper professionals in different departments as they start building their blueprint for their future careers. This is also a great opportunity for employees to have an extra set of hands in their field.
In the Civil Engineering department, a summer student, Rylie Clark, describes her experience. “I’ve been exposed to both office and field work within the civil projects team, which has given me some insight into the different aspects of civil engineering. This opportunity has helped me develop my professional skills and give me a look into the real-world applications of civil engineering, specifically dams and dikes.”
The interns settled into their positions in May and are reaching the end of the program. Santee Cooper has benefited from fresh talent, eagerness to learn, the contribution of new ideas, and enthusiasm. The students have been able to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects and be mentored by seasoned professionals.
In the Safety department , summer student Logan Guerry said, “This internship has impacted me by allowing me to learn new skills that I haven’t had before this experience. These skills that I have learned during this internship will be very beneficial to my career in the future. Overall, I have felt so welcomed here, and it has truly been a great experience.”
